Today was a good day, I'm happy to say. Especially after the possibly desolate tone of my previous post. I think that thinking things through there and airing things out served as a surprisingly effective catharsis for me. And that things were pretty good across the board today is a nice bonus.
First, a number of us received our Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) results today. As I cautiously expected, I passed. That's good. (I mean, it
was level two. A classmate told me that there was no way I would have failed because it was level two, but I replied that I was worrying because it
was level two. If I'd failed level two, that would have been mortifying, man.) I didn't do as well as I'd hoped I might, admittedly, but certainly not bad.
This morning, we held our class speech contest, used to decide who will represent our class in the upcoming school-wide speech contest. I managed to escape being selected for
that, but the emcees for the event traditionally come from A class, and I ended up being one of those two. I didn't particularly want to it, but one of my best friends in class, for some reason, wanted to do it and volunteered. No one else was going to step up to the plate, it seemed, and I figured that it might probably be okay if we do it together. So, at the last possible moment, I reluctantly volunteered. If I understand correctly, the most troublesome thing that we'll have to do (outside of emceeing the actual contest, of course) is interview the representatives of each class for the sake of their introductions at the contest. Well ... hopefully this will be some fun. It'll likely be a useful experience.
After all of that was decided came two fairly unremarkable classes followed by my kanji elective, which is now in a considerably larger classroom more appropriate for our enrollment. The class is going a bit better and is more interesting than I expected, and I'm getting more out of it than I thought I would; however, on the flip side, it's got a really ... weird atmosphere. The sensei, for her part, is pretty cool and seems to take effort to draw me into the class, which is nice of her.
Once I was out of school, I went to play tennis and table tennis with a friend of mine. I've barely played table tennis in my time, but I wasn't too bad. (Better than I was at tennis, at least.) After that, we played some Nintendo for a bit. And in the evening, a dinner date with some other folks at a nearby Korean restaurant.
A good day.
