.日本

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has decided to allow the kanji characters for "Japan" to be used as a country code in Internet domain names, The Nikkei learned Sunday.

Kanji are the Chinese characters used in Japanese writing.

Japan Registry Service Co. now oversees registration of domain names that use ".jp" as the country code suffix. But by June 2009, the ministry intends to select a new entity to oversee domain names ending with ".nippon" in Chinese characters.

Huh. That's interesting. So we'll be seeing domains like www.yahoo.日本, then?

Welcome!

The name's Jonathan. I studied Japanese at The Yamasa Institute in Okazaki, Aichi in Japan for two years until March 2008, when I returned to Houston, Texas in the USA. This blog is written in English and in Japanese, essentially according to my mood. I am also infatuated with typos and strive to incorporate them in all of my work.
